The 2014 Great Bear Chase is just around the corner, and with that the Portage Health Great Bear Chase Ski Marathon has finalized all of the food and beverage options for this year, including two new ones: A beer-tasting event during the award ceremony and a food truck out at the stadium! Below are all the details you’ll need to know as you finalize your plans for the 2014 Great Bear Chase.
Bear Chase Beer Tasting
After finish the Great Bear Chase skiers are invited to the Calumet Readiness Center (directions here) for all the usual fun, including pasties and the award ceremony. New this year: We’ll have six Keweenaw Brewing Company beers available for racers! Stop by the booth, and try a couple while you’re waiting for your award ceremony to begin. KBC and a pasty, the perfect Yooper connection.
Pasty Party
After you’ve completed the 10k, 25k or 50k race, you’ll need some food. We’ll have that food ready for you at race headquarters at the Calumet Readiness Center. Some out of towners lovingly refer to this time as the “Pasty Party.” In the U.P., we just called it lunch. We’ll serve up fresh, award-winning pasties, bakery items and refreshments! There will also be pasties for sale for those who didn’t race. The Readiness Center’s locker rooms (including showers) will even be open so you pasty partiers can shower before hitting the road.
Red Wagon Food Truck
New for 2014 the Great Bear Chase is proud to be partnering with Red Wagon Food Truck to offer hot food and beverages at the Great Bear Chase Stadium on Spruce Street in Calumet. The food truck will have a variety of warm food and drinks available for purchase, as well as some breakfast bakery.
Pasta Dinner Right on Site
Great Bear Chase racers are invited to our annual pasta dinner! This year the event is put on as a fundraiser by the Calumet High School Jr. ROTC program. The dinner will be $10 for adults with children 12 and under $7.50. Children under 5 are free. The menu will include cole slaw, penne pasta, meat sauce, marinara sauce, vegetables, garlic bread, flavored drink and ice water. This will take place at the Calumet Readiness Center during last-minute registration and bib pick-up. Click here for directions to the readiness center.
